Orthopedic Mattress - What is it?

If you suffer from back pain or arthritis you may have found someone ask you whether you have bought an orthopedic mattress or memory foam mattress. Both are the same although the latter is a type of the former, but most commonly the exact type of material people mean when they use the term orthopedic mattress.

As you may have already guessed, orthopedic mattresses are designed for people with orthopedic issues in particular, although the popularity of memory foam has recently lead to people purchasing these types of mattress even though they have no such condition.

So then what is memory foam? Memory foam is a special material whose origins come from a NASA experiment, where they were used as a space cushion in spacecrafts.

With humans, they help support the joints and the spine in its natural position. The material is gentle enough to mold around your body in response to heat and weight, yet firm enough to provide support also. The overall effect is that someone can feel like they are floating. Spring coil mattresses do not mold, they merely offer resistance. For aching joints this can aggravate rather than help alleviate the pain. Memory foam also has the unique ability to regain its orginal shape after use, so it's like sleeping on a new mattress each time it is used.

Recognising the orthopedic health qualities in memory foam, due to its resistant, yet supportive nature, memory foam quickly became the orthopedic mattress material of choice in medical establishments, and not long after that they started to become popular as a retail mattress. Today they are easily accessible and at a range of prices.

From high quality budget end mattresses such as the Dynasty Mattress to the High End Mattresses, such as the Oprah featured RhapsodyBed by Tempur-pedic. How much is paid is down to the consumer. There is now a lot of choice in the market and just because a brand is cheaper, does not necessarily mean it's low in quality. Dynasty Mattress for example claims to be a good alternative to a Tempur-pedic mattress. Well there's quite a difference in price between a Dynasty Mattress which cost a few hundred dollars, to a Tempur-pedic mattress, which costs thousands and up. That said, it appears that you are indeed getting value for money with the Dynasty Mattress you can read a Dynasty Mattress review to find out more and discover if this orthopedic mattress really does do what it says on the tin - as the saying goes.
